Let’s hear it for the Prime Minister of Singapore

Incredible, I’d be surprised if *any* of our leaders, anywhere in this country, would be able to do something like this. After mentioning that he had written a sudoku-solving program in C++ while addressing an IT conference, people asked to see it so the Prime Minister of Singapore decided to post it on Facebook and ask for feedback!

It’s very inspiring that someone in his position has that skill and know-how, and is willing to highlight that as part of his position. Hopefully it inspires people to try it out for themselves, especially since the Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) required to write code are freely available. You can download Visual Studio to develop for multiple platforms in Windows here (and learn C# here), if you are on a Mac you can download the XCode IDE here.

I should mention that while I wouldn’t say C++ is deprecated, C# is the language that you want to learn if you’re going to get into programing. I encourage anyone who’s interested to give it a try, there are many great tutorials online, and it’s a good skill to have some knowledge of. You’ll be surprised how quickly you can write your first Hello World program.
